From May 13, 2019 to May 23, 2019, University of Illinois Architecture Professor Kevin Hinders led a CHP Travel Course in Rome!

Students were immersed in the history, culture and architecture of Rome, one of the most influential cities in the world over the past 2200 years. We experienced the wonders of the Colosseum, Pantheon and the Roman Forum. We visited Saint Peter’s Basilica and attended a papal audience. We saw the Vatican and its treasures, including the Sistine Chapel. The group also visit the palaces and piazzas including Palazzos Farenese, Massimo alla Colona, the Cancelleria and Piazzas Navona, Rotunda, San Ignazio, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain while exploring the food, culture and urban environment of the historic city center. Churches such as San Agnese, San Ivo, San Luigi ai Francese and museums provided access to some of Rome’s greatest works of art. A day trip to Pisa and Florence gave access to additional historic sites while a day trip to Tivoli enhanced the participants’ understanding of the Roman and Italian culture through an experience of the Italian countryside and its villas (Hadrians Villa and the Villa d’Este).
